Shi Dawei, born in 1950, native of Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, graduated from the Chinese painting department of Fine Arts College of Shanghai University. Now he is vice-chairman of Chinese Artists Association; member of the 10th National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; president of Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy, artist of the top level; vice-chairman of Shanghai Artists Association and director of its Traditional Chinese Painting Council; member of Shanghai Federation of Literature and Art Circles; guest professor of Fine Arts College of Shanghai University and Fine Arts College of Shanghai Normal University.
1978:
In May, Shi was redeployed as painter of the serial pictures department of Shanghai People’s Fine Arts Publishing House.
Shi was elected member of the 4th Standing Committee of Shanghai Youth Federation.
1980:
Shi was elected director of the 3rd Shanghai Artists Association.
1981:
The work I’d like to make a report to Chairman Mao, now collected by National Art Museum of China, won the second prize of the 2nd National Exhibition of Fine Arts of the Youth.
The work Qing Soldiers Entering the Village won the second prize of the 2nd National Competition of Serial Pictures Creating.
1983:
Shi was elected member of the 6th All-China Youth Federation.
Shi visited Japan as a member of Shanghai Youth Delegation.
1984:
Shi was elected member of Shanghai Federation of Literature and Art Circles.
The work Relatives was the exhibit of the 6th National Exhibition of Excellent Art Works in Beijing.
1985:
Shi was elected director of the 4th Chinese Artists Association.
1986:
Shi graduated from Fine Arts College of Shanghai University.

The work Tempest won the third prize of the 3rd National Competition of Serial Pictures Creating.
Shi’s individual exhibition was held in Milan, Italy.
1988:
Shi’s individual exhibition was held in Singapore.
1989:
The work On the Way Home: Report on the West Regiment of Women Soldiers won the bronze prize of the 7th National Exhibition of Fine Arts.
Shi was elected member of the 4th presidium of Shanghai Artists Association.
1990:
Shi was elected member of the 7th All-China Youth Federation.
1991:
Shi became the standing vice-president of Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy.
The work A Stone Gazing Out for Her Husband won the third prize of the 4th National Competition of Serial Pictures Creating.
The work 1941.1.14 Wannan Incident won the bronze prize of Fine Arts Exhibition for the 70th Anniversary of the Foundation of CCP and the 1st prize of Shanghai Region.
Shi was chosen as the national artist of the top level.
1992:
Shi visited Japan as a member of Shanghai Friendship Delegation.
1993:
The work 1941.1.14 Wannan Incident won the prize for great achievement in the 2nd Competition of Shanghai Literature and Art.
The work Son of the People was collected by Military Museum of Chinese People’s Revolution.
1994:
Shi’s individual exhibition “Ils et Elles” was held in Hong Kong.
The work To Die for Country was the exhibit of the 8th National Exhibition of Excellent Art Works.
1996:
Shi participated in“Expanding of Ink Paintings: the International Invited Exhibition of Character-painting”in Beijing.
Shi was elected member of the 6th National Congress of Representatives of Literary and Art Circles.
Selected Works of Shi Dawei was published by Shanghai Education Publishing House.
Shi made an academic investigation in America as a member of Chinese Artists Association.
1998:
The work County Fellows was the exhibit of the Exhibition on Chinese Culture in 5000 Years held by the Ministry of Culture in Guggenheim Museum of United States and Spain.
Shi was elected director of the 5th Chinese Artists Association.
1999:
Shi became the executive president of Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy.
Shi was elected member of the Traditional Chinese Painting Council of Chinese Artists Association.
Shi was elected judge of the 9th National Exhibition of Fine Arts.
The work Shanghai, Good Morning was the exhibit of the 9th National Exhibition of Fine Arts.
Shi participated in“Expanding of Ink Paintings: the National Invited Exhibition of Character-painting”in Beijing.
Shi was elected vice-chairman of the 5th Shanghai Artists Association.
2000:
Shi was awarded the title of national outstanding expert by the Ministry of Culture, People’s Republic of China.
Shi Dawei’s exhibition for observation was held in Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy.
2001:
The work Creation of the Universe won the honourable prize of Fine Arts Exhibition for the 80th Anniversary of the Foundation of CCP.
Shi Dawei was published by Shanghai People’s Fine Arts Publishing House.
In December, Shi was elected member of the 7th National Congress of Representatives of Literary and Art Circles.
2002:
Shi participated in the Exhibition of Contemporary Excellent Art Works of Shanghai (preparatory) which was organized by Shanghai People’s Political Consultative Conference Committee and co-organized by Shanghai Artists Association and Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy.
Shi participated in the Exhibition of Contemporary Excellent Art Works of Shanghai in Beijing.
2003:
In February, Shi was elected member of the 10th National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Shi Dawei, one of the Series of Character-paintings of the Mainstream Painters in the 21st Century, was published by Daxiang Press.
In September, Shi made a cultural investigation in Europe.
In December, Shi was elected director of the 6th Chinese Artists Association.
2004:
Shi became the president of Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy.
Shi was elected judge-in-chief of National Exhibition of Fine Arts and judge of its Chinese paintings.
Shi created The Long March (in series): Birth which was the exhibit of the 10th National Exhibition of Excellent Art Works in Beijing.
2005:
In July, Shi was co-opted as the vice-chairman of the 6th Chinese Artists Association.
The work Indelible Memories: Nanjing 1937 was the exhibit of“Memories cannot be Forgotten: the Exhibition for the 60th Anniversary of the Victory of Anti-Japanese War, in Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy for 2005”.
In September, Shi attended the opening ceremony of“Bloom in the Spring and Bear Fruit in the Autumn: The Collection from Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy”in the Hong Kong City Hall.
2006:
In July, Shi made an investigation in Lyon on the artistic creation of the transformation of old city.
In August, Shi participated in the selection of National Important Historic Themes organized by the Ministry of Culture in Beijing.
In November, Shi was elected member of the 8th National Congress of Representatives of Literary and Art Circles.
In November, Shi was employed as an honourable member of the Traditional Chinese Painting Council of the 3rd Chinese Artists Association.
The work Houyi’s Story was the exhibit of“Harmony•Space: the Exhibition of Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy for 2006”.
2007:
From March to May, Shi created Figures and Cloth Tigers (in series) and Figures and Terra-cotta Warriors (in series).
