序
城市如人，有性格，有阅历，有丰癯。对一座城市的解读有各种不同的方式和方法：
城市是历史的，罗马城不是一天造就的，一条街、一堵墙，甚至一棵树，都是一个符号，一个坐标，有生命，会呼吸，需要每个公民用心去珍藏。
城市是立体的，不仅标注面积，也标注高度，还标注色彩和亮度，它是一个全方位，可感受、可欣赏、能生活的三维空间。它需要每个公民为其添砖加瓦。
当然，城市也是文化的，一座城市的密码，更是其历史积淀的文化底蕴，以及在漫长历史演进过程中所保留下来的文化遗迹和人文精神。
而我更赞同城市是前人、今人、后人共同完成的一部书，一部图文并茂的书，一部包罗万象的书，每个公民都参与鉴赏，参与创作，既是读者又是作者。
说你是读者，或许你生于斯，长与斯，已经习惯了周围的一切，习惯了车马人喧，习惯了城市的潜移默化；或整天忙于日常生活，无暇顾及。天天接触的城市，往往最不了解它，真所谓：“不识庐山真面目，只缘身在此山中”；或许你是少小离家老大回的游子，故乡只在梦魂中；或许你只是这座城市的过客；或许，你从未听说过有这座城市。但这没关系，距离产生美。让我们跳出一步，静下心来，一起来阅读这部《锦绣龙城》，感受一下这座城市的变化和律动。
说你是作者，你就是这座城市的主人。你有义务为这座城市书写锦绣篇章，谱写恢弘乐章，也有责任扮靓这座城市，使之亭亭玉立，让她告别单薄，凸显丰满，为《锦绣龙城》增添内涵。
本书主要通过摄影图片，从不同的角度，反映常州城市面貌近年来悄然发生的变化：这些变化或来自城市空间的扩大，交通出行的便捷，功能配套的齐全；或来自居住条件的改善，城市环境的美化，生活质量的提高。一篇一章都惊喜，一枝一叶总关情。
用图片的方式表现城市面貌，好处是形象，一目了然。缺点是“意态由来画不成”，城市精神文化的东西不易表达，而且，还过滤掉了城市面貌中的一些杂质和灰色，易引起误读。但不管怎样，它不是凭空虚构，不能无中生有，让人看到的是一个实实在在的常州，一个日新月异的常州，一个妩媚动人的“锦绣龙城”。

Preface
A city likes a man, owns character, enjoys experience, and possesses strengths and weaknesses. We may find different ways and methods for the interpretations to a city:
A city owns a history, since Rome was not built in a day. One street, a wall, or even a single tree stands for a symbol, a coordinate, boasts a life, has breath, and deserves our cherishment from heart.
A city likes a solid, which is not only labeled with area and height, but also identified with color and brightness. It is an all-round three-dimensional space, feelable, appreciable, enjoyable and livable, which demands contributions from each citizen.
Of course, a city is also a culture. The code of a city more symbolizes the cultural deposits left by a rich history, and stands for the cultural relics and humanity, which was reserved from a long historical progress course.
However, I myself prefer that a city is a book jointly written by predecessors, contemporaries and descendants, a book full of excellent texts and pictures, and an all-inclusive book or an encyclopedia involves creation and appreciation of each citizen who is both a reader and an author.
When you are said as a reader, maybe you were born here, grew up here, and are used to everything around you or the noise of vehicles, or the silent transforming influence brought by the city; or you barely pay attention to the surrounding circumstances since you are keeping busy by the daily life. The city you are living in day by day is probably the city you understand the least, just like a poem says, “I can't tell the true shape of Mount Lu because I myself am on the mountain”. Perhaps, you are a wanderer left home young, and return old, with hometown only existing in your dream. Maybe, you are just a passenger traveling through the city; or maybe you never know this city. However, it doesn’t matter since absence makes the heart grow fonder. Let’s jump out the thought, and read this book of Splendid Dragon City together in a quiet heart, and feel the change and touch the rhythm of this city.
When you are considered as the author, you are just the master of the city. You are obliged to write a splendid chapter and compose a magnificent movement for the city, and liable for dressing up the city to make her charming and graceful, bidding farewell to thinness other than fullness, and enriching the contents of the Splendid Dragon City.
By means of some photographic pictures, this book attempts to reflect the changes silently happened to the image of Changzhou from different angles. Some of such changes come from the enlargement of city space, convenience of traffic condition, and improvement of supporting functions of city; some of them reflect the improvement of housing condition, beautification of urban environment, and upgrading of living quality. Surprises can be found in each text and each chapter, and affection is reflected on every branch and every piece of leaf.
Presenting a city’s image by pictures enjoys an advantage of vividness and intuition. However, the weakness it may occur is that consciousness and form can never be fully represented by pictures. The spiritual culture of a city is hard to describe. Furthermore, some impurities and gray in the city’s image are often filtered out and result in misunderstanding. However, it is not fictional and out of thin air, but enables you to witness an actual Changzhou, an ever-changing Changzhou, and an attractive Splendid Dragon City.
