Like a bright pearl, the Dongting Lake is located in the central China, extending almost four hundred kilometers. South to Dongting Lake is a precious land called Hunan.
Hunan is, for short, called as XIANG because of the largest river running through the province——Xiangjiang River. And it is known in the name of Land of Lotus for the popularity of lotus there. Geographically, to the north of Hunan is the Yangtze River, to the south is Hong Kong and Macao and around Hunan are the provinces of Hubei, Guangxi, Guizhou, Jiangxi and Chongqing City. The population of Hunan province is 67.32 million and the area covers 211.8 thousand square kilometers including 13 cities, one autonomous area, in a number of 122 counties (cities and districts). Changsha, the capital city, is a famous historical and cultural city.
I would say that the original Lian brook in the south could become the huge Xiangjiang River and many famous poets would like to sing the great river. Hunan has its important position in the 5000 years?history of the Chinese civilization. Especially in the recent hundreds years, Hunan people have led the times and tides with their spirit of bravery to exceed others and to exceed the world. Its culture makes Hunan the origin of China’s important “New Thoughts” and the democratic revolution. The first Chinese diplomatist, the first Chinese who advocating the importance to know the world, and the first Chinese who advocating to learn from the West, all these famous people were born in the Hunan.
Being the home country of Chairman Mao Zedong, Hunan make its a great contribution to the foundation and the development of the People’s Republic of China, which are the pride of all Hunan people.
But Hunan people feel even more proud for its significance and contribution for China today. By catching up the oppo-rtunity, Hunan has made great progress in the tides of China’s opening-up and the reformation. Now it is transforming the traditional agriculture with modern and advanced technology; it also speeds up in the process of industrialization and greatly improves its urbanization. Since 2000 the growth of the GDP in Hunan has been up by more than 10%. For the recent two years the fiscal income has increased up to more than RMB￥10 billion. In 2005 the provincial GDP reached RMB ￥64.74 billion and the GDP Per Capita exceeded RMB￥10,000. The rapidly developing Hunan is shaping its good image in the world!
Hunan is attributed with its regional advantages in the developed agriculture, powerful basis of industry, abundant natural resources, advanced education and technology, prosperous cultural industry, low-cost business operation and convenient transportation network. At present, Hunan has established direct trade relations with 145 countries and districts and 38 global top 500 enterprises have invested in Hunan. Hunan is becoming more and more charming and vigorous.
I therefore dream of its vast area and enjoy the morning sunlight in the Land of Lotus. In the long history of the civilization, Hunan has been making its efforts and contribution to the peaceful development of the mankind. Now Hunan people have the confidence to make ever greater contribution to the world civilization.
The world believes the bright future of Hunan province and the Hunan people would like to make efforts to return to the world!
