2007年6月 (杨晶 中共内蒙古自治区党委副书记、内蒙古自治区主席) To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Treasures of Inner Mongolia with regard to the precious cultural relics collected in the Region is presented to you. This book includes the top-quality cultural relics collected since the founding the Region and each of such cultural relics means the precious heritage left over to us by the ancestors on the grassland. It can be observed from this book that not only the brilliant treasures in the treasury can be appreciated, but also the broad and deep grassland culture can be enjoyed. Hence, these treasures as largess are presented to readers at in the days when the 60th anniversary are celebrated. This event is of high value and delectable. With an area of 1,183,000 km2, the Region has various landforms including plateau, ridge, plain, basin, volcano, Gobi and desert. East Inner Mongolian experiences the humid higher that in West Inner Mongolian, while West Inner Mongolian experiences the temperature higher than that in East Inner Mongolian due to the effects of geographical environment. Such complicated geographic environment allows the Inner Mongolian economy and culture to take on varied and colorful outlooks, which act as the foundation for the splendid and diversified grassland culture, as well as for its attraction and highlights. Inner Mongolian witnessed the human development and activities as early as more than 700,000 years ago and emerged the early farming civilization 8,000 years ago. The wonderful cultural relics included this book, particularly the jasper dragon and red pottery phoenix cup dated from the period of Hongshan Culture, are named the earliest 襠ragon and phoenix?in the evolution of Chinese civilizations. As the cradle for grassland culture, Inner Mongolian saw its first grassland state, namely, the Hun State, which grew up here and left behind the gold crown of Attila and Erdos bronze ware such cultural relics can be named the treasures in the treasury of grassland culture. The ancient northern nomads such the Eastern Hu, Serbi, Wuhuan, Turks, Khitan, Nuchen, Dangxiang, Mongolian people created the splendid and valuable cultural heritages here in Inner Mongolian. Most of the masterpieces among such cultural relics are included in this book for appreciation, which are acclaimed as the peak of perfection. The nationalities on the grassland have bred up the firm and persistent character under the conditions of toughness and hardship on deserts and grassland, with generations of outstanding offspring born here, having contributed a lot to the progress of the Chinese civilizations and world civilizations. It can be understood from such cultural heritages that the great inventions and creations of such nationalities can be known about more overall and profound, so that the consciousness for protecting and carrying on such historical and cultural heritages and human spirit can be promoted.
