Foreword
The World Expo 2010 Shanghai was yet another major international event hosted by China following the Beijing Olympic Games. For the first time in its 159-year history, the World Expo came to a developing country. It fulfilled a long-cherished dream of the Chinese people and won wide acclaim from people of the world.
The Shanghai World Expo was a successful, splendid and unforgettable showcase for economic, social, scientific, technological and cultural achievements. At the same time, it was a forum for vibrant diplomatic activities. Thanks to the sustained and extensive reach of this six-month event, the Shanghai World Expo served as an important platform for public diplomacy and an important opportunity for China to have closer interactions with other countries and present itself fully to the world.
“Better City, Better Life”. The Shanghai World Expo was not just an expo of Shanghai and China. It was, more importantly, an expo of the world. It offered an important platform for people of different countries to display development achievements, enhance mutual understanding and friendship, and promote common development. China mobilized the whole nation, pooled worldwide wisdom, and worked with all other parties to make the Shanghai World Expo a bridge of friendship and people-to-people exchanges.
As a Chinese adage goes, “One should follow what is good and learn from those who are better.” The World Expo presented us a good opportunity to learn from other countries and peoples.
