我和杨桂鑫相识在新疆喀什。2002年我受喀什地委和行署的委托出版大型画册《喀什噶尔》，当时杨桂鑫在喀什从事援疆工作。2006年我们在深圳不期而遇，让我对他有了更深刻的印象。他送我一本他个人的摄影集《心中的喀什》。他说：“请张老师多多指教。我出这本画册有两个原因，一是你的大型画册《喀什噶尔》对我的影响很大，给我带来了灵感；二是我在喀什分管外经贸、口岸和旅游工作，有很多机会能拍到可遇而不可求的片子，汇集成册，为宣传喀什、促进发展多做一点事情。” 画册《心中的喀什》做的很精美，他在喀什担任领导职务，能利用工余时间拍摄大量照片出画册，足以看出他对摄影的热爱和对援疆工作强烈的责任感。同时，我也能体会到他为此而付出的辛苦和劳累。
中国西部地区幅源辽阔，天华物宝，人杰地灵。青藏高原、云贵高原、黄土高原、内蒙古高原是西部地区的主要地理地貌。这就构成了西部地区既有世界上最高的冰峰雪山，又有让人望而却步的大漠戈壁；既有茫茫如海的原始森林，又有绿草如茵的天然牧场；既有闻名于世的大江大湖，又有被中外游客称颂为香格里拉的人间仙境；既有历史悠久的古城遗址，又有令人叹为观止的人文古迹。那冰峰、雪山、大河、小溪、草原、牧场、大漠、戈壁，无不显示出人与大自然息息相关的生命主题。
西部风光魅力无比，它雄浑大气、苍凉震撼，它山清水秀、壮美神奇。西部地区少数民族众多，民族风情独特，民风古朴热情，这一切就构成了令人心旷神怡、流连忘返的美丽画卷。
愿《心中的西部》为我国西部大开发添光加彩。

Yang Guixin and I met in Kashi of Xinjiang. In 2002, I published a large-scale album “Kashigar” committed by Prefectural and Administrative office, and at that time, Yang Guixin engaged in the career of supporting Xinjiang. We met in Shenzhen by chance in 2006, which impressed me much deeper to him. He sent me the photo of his personal collection, “Kashi of the hearts”. He said, “I’ll much appreciate Mr. Zhang’s comments. There are two reasons for me to publish this album, one is that your large-scale album “Kashigar” influenced on me so much and enlightened me; the other is due to I was in charge of foreign economic and trade, ports and tourism job, I have a lot of opportunities to luck upon many photos and collect them into an album to do something for Kashi’s promotion and development.” The album looks very exquisite. He was in the positions of leadership in Kashi; however, he can make use of his spare time to take photos and publish them, which reveals his love to photography and strong responsibility to the job of supporting Xinjiang. At the same time, I can also realize the hardship he suffered.
The western regions of China have vast lands with rare treasures and outstanding talents. Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, the Loess Plateau and Inner Mongolia Plateau are the major geographic landforms of western regions. Therefore, here there is not only the highest snow mountain in the world, but also discouraged Gobi desert; not only the primeval forests like the vast sea, but also the natural pasture with the green grass; not only the well-known rivers and lakes, but also the worldly paradise called Shangri-La by Chinese and foreign tourists; not only ancient ruins with long history, but also human historic interests acclaimed as the peak of perfection. All the icy-peaks, snow mountains, rivers, streams, grasslands, pastures, desert, Gobi show the subject of life that human being and nature are closely related.
The western regions have beautiful scenery with powerful majesty and bleak shock. There are beautiful mountains and clear water with magnificent magic charming. And many minorities exist in western regions with unique national customs and enthusiastic folk customs of primitive simplicity, all of which constitute a very relaxed and happy, hauntingly beautiful picture.
Wish “West China in my heart” can make contribution for the large-scale development of western China.
