内容提要
  我与俊杰曾在同一所学院里教书,虽然他小我十来岁,但我们还是很谈得来。
  他生于北方,所以北方汉子的那种讲义气的秉性在他身上很突出。 
  他待人很真诚,为朋友做事从不哼哼哈哈,没有二话。
  在教学上,他对学生要求很严格,上课极其认真,或许正是这种秉性,
  虽然我离开学校已经多年,但与他还是时有交往。
  程俊杰毕业于中央工艺美院,学的是工艺,教的也是工艺。
  然而他最钟情的还是油画。当然学工艺的画油画也大有人在,
  而且也有不少优势,但劣势也是难免的,那就是有时在画上会有一种工艺气,
  一种刻意做作的小气,可是在他的作品中却找不到此类的小气,
  正是这种普通与平凡所营造的空间勾起人们的一丝记忆。
  记忆让画面充满了温情,平凡使得图像更为朴实,
  所以在他的画中空间是平面的,是基于心理与真实之间的,
  你很难去判断一把椅子、一张桌子放在房间里,还是置于旷野;
  一个灯从哪里垂下,那团电线又通往哪里。你不必去搞清楚,
  你也不会去追究,因为他奉献给你的就是一个温暖的记忆,
  那个空间是暧昧的,是一种似曾相识而又亲切的陌生。
  前些年,他画了一批取名为“记忆的空间”的系列静物画。
  画中出现的时常是一些我们生活中熟视无睹的物品,一个陶罐,一盏油灯,
  一把椅子,一辆自行车,一台老式缝纫机,拖着一团电线的灯,
  晾在衣架上的衬衫,一些不可名状的植物……
  就是这些普通得不能再普通的琐碎物品构成了他的艺术世界。
  艺术家的慧眼就是需要能从最平凡的生活中去发现旁人还未意识到的那种美,
  它会让你开拓一些新的视觉资源,而正是这些不太起眼,
  不引人关注的题材,向你发起一种挑战,而正是这种挑战,
  逼迫你要创造一套全新的语言来言说这种普通与平凡。
  俊杰的画洋溢着一种静静的气氛,浅灰的色调,不太跳跃的色阶,
  淡淡的愉快,有时如沐浴在晨间的阳光下,有时又如陶醉于傍晚的霞光之中,
  没有张扬,没有激昂,犹如倚在安乐椅中,
  聆听着金色小提琴优雅的娓娓乐音。
  我特别喜爱他那些迷人的灰色调和各种丰富的画面肌理,
  正是这些肌理使得这一笔笔的灰色充满变化,充满生机与力量。
  灰色是一种很暧昧的色调,灰色又是一种高贵的色调,
  全在于画家如何去把握它、控制它。俊杰在这一点上无疑是成功的,
  在他的灰色调里透出一丝高雅与一种捉摸不定的欢快。
  他的画笔虽洒脱但却自然而然,有装饰感但没有工艺气,造型朴拙,
  趣味盎然。他的油画,结构严谨,在这自由、随意的背后是他一丝不苟的苦心经营。
  据说他在画前都有极精到的线描习作,
  他是油画家中少见的画得一手好线描的画家。
  近年来他画线描式速写入了迷,已经积累了厚厚几大本。
  油画中的那种洒脱与机巧在他的这些速写中似乎都不见了,
  他简直就像一个学生一样踏踏实实地在做着功课,
  那种虔诚、朴实不想漏掉一些生动或丰富,
  这种精神与到处都在提倡高扬个性的今天已经变得非常可贵。
  其实表现自我,自我来自于对生活的感受,正是生活丰富了感受,
  思想使得这种感受不断深化自我就变得丰盈起来。
  马蒂斯这么简练的油画,即使在晚年还是对着模特画着写生,
  因为生命带给你的永远是充满活力的体验,每一刻都应该是鲜亮的。
  这两年他又尝试画起人物来,他将线描与油画结合了起来,
  在这一批作品中,他颜料用得较薄,有时还让它自由流淌,
  这种生动与自然让画作充满了一种机抒无限的主动,线条勾出人物的形,
  进进出出自由舒坦,这种风格独特的油画正在成熟之中,充满了东方的风韵。
  这或许是构成其油画不同一般的重要元素之一,
  这种线描使其在空间的营造时充满了一种随意与主观,一种平面的铺陈,
  一种书写的痛快,一种寓空间于平面之中的机智。
  俊杰是一个很勤奋的画家,除了油画他还搞陶艺,也搞设计。
  他对自己取得的成绩不以为然,他正在做一些新的尝试,这是好画家的基本品格,

  I have worked with Junjie in the same college.
  Although he is about 10 years younger than me, we get along very well.
  He was born in the north China.
  So he has the strong personality of loyalty and justice as a northern man.
  He is a sincere person who can help his friends without any hesitation.
  He is very earnest in teaching, strict with his student.
  Maybe just because of his temperament,
  I keep contact with him though I have left college for many years.
  Cheng Junjie graduated from Central Academy of Arts and Design.
  He majors in arts and crafts, and naturally he teaches the art craft.
  However, he is particularly keen on oil painting.
  Apparently, lots of people who major in arts and crafts change to do oil painting at last.
  They do have some advantages, while their disadvantages are also unavoidable.
  A certain crafts style may sometimes appear in the painting which is a narrowness and affectation.
  But you can’t find this narrowness in Junjie’s work.
  Instead space constructed by plainness and commonness remind people of nostalgia.
  Nostalgia makes the picture full of warmness and plainness brings spontaneity to his painting.
  So the space in his picture is a place surface which is between the mentality and reality.
  It is hard to judge whether the chair or the table should be put in the room or in the field.
  Where the light drops from and where the wire goes to.
  It is needless to make clear or figure out what it is. He just offers you the warm memory.
  That space is ambiguous; it is both familiar and strange.
  He painted a series of still life named “memory space”.
  The content of painting often appears in our lives such as a pottery, a lamp, a chair, a bike,
  a vintage sewing machine, a light towing wire, shirts drying on the racks,
  and some unknown plants…… It is these ordinary trivial items that make his artistic world.
  Artists need keen observation to explore the beauty from the ordinary life
  which may be ignored by other people.
  It is the common but unusual material that will bring you a challenge
  and oblige you to create a new interpretation of such commonness.
  Junjie’s paintings are intimately bound up with tranquility.
  The light grey tone, the inactive color,
  together with the slight joy make you have the feeling
  as if you were in the sunshine in the morning or intoxicated in evening sunlight;
  or in the recliner, appreciating the graceful tune from a golden violin.
  I particularly like his charming grey color and various rich textures.
  These textures inject vigor and dynamics into each of his brush work.
  Grey is an ambiguous and noble color. It depends on how the artist uses and commands it.
  Junjie is undoubtedly successful on this point.
  His grey tones reflect a certain grace and uncertain joy. His painting is straightforward but natural,
  decorative but without a sense of craft, plain and full of interests.
  His oil paintings is well-structured. Behind the freedom, there is his painstaking efforts
  which he keeps working meticulously.
  It is said there is always a delicate line sketch before his oil painting.
  He is a rare oil painting artist who can draw wonderful line drawings.
  In recent years, he was fascinated in drawing line pictures.
  He has already accumulated a thick layer of sketch books.
  The free and easy style disappears in his sketch.
  He is simply like a hard-working student who does homework earnestly.
  The spirit of piety and diligence,
  being unwilling to miss a slightest detail is extremely valuable at present
  since this times advocates individuality.
  In fact, self-expression comes from the feeling of life. Life experiences enrich our feeling,
  and our thinking deepens it so that the feeling gets rich. Matisse sticks to simple oil painting.
  Even in his late life, he did not give up painting models.
  Life always extends you vigorous experience, so every moment of it should be fresh.
  These years he has tried drawing figures. He mixes the method of line sketch and oil painting.
  In these works, he uses comparatively thin color, and sometimes makes it flow freely.
  This vigor and spontaneity add to the activeness of the painting.
  The lines depict the outline of the figure which will look free and comfortable.
  This unique style that is full of oriental charms is getting mature.
  This element of line sketch may be the specific feature of his oil painting
  that can be distinguished from others.
  This line sketch makes the composition of space more free, active, and narrative.
  Also it brings a writing joy and wisdom from the disposition
  that puts a space in a plane. Junjie is a very hard-working artist.
  In addition to painting, he also engages in pottery and design.
  He was not just satisfied with his previous achievements.
  He is trying to do something new. This is the necessary quality to be a good artist.
  I think we will soon see his new creation,
  since the life of an outstanding artist is given by the creation.
