上海是中国水彩画的福地，一百多年前西方水彩画通过教会创办的“土山湾画馆”传入了中国，一百多年后，中国水彩画又通过“上海朱家角国际水彩画双年展”走向了世界。中国水彩画经历了萌芽期、成长期、形成期、革新期的蹉跎岁月，几辈水彩画家的持续努力，终于有了今天繁荣发展的新局面，形成了富有民族气派和中国特色的水彩画新风貌。
中国水彩画借助上海世界博览会的东风，第一次在“上海朱家角国际水彩画双年展”中和世界各国的优秀水彩画并肩而立、相互促进，更是一个可喜的新开端，相信中国水彩画将以它庞大的作者队伍，认真的创作态度，严肃的学术精神和丰富多彩的面貌令世人刮目相望。
为了给这次国际水彩画双年展更壮声色，从另一个角度全面地展示中国水彩画的新面貌，我们举办了这次水彩画名家邀请展。参展画家限于中国美术家协会水彩画艺术委员会的成员和上海朱家角国际水彩画双年展组织委员会的成员。同时，为了增强中国水彩画的发展后劲，本次展览还将探索进入艺术市场的新途径，相信在百雅轩文化艺术机构的努力下会开创中国水彩画发展的新天地。

Shanghai is the blessed land for Chinese watercolor paintings. Over one hundred years ago, western watercolor painting was introduced to China by Tushanwan Art Gallery established by church. One hundred years later, Chinese watercolor paintings have been well known by the world through Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolor Biennial Exhibition. Chinese watercolor paintings have experienced different stages, namely the germination period, growth period, forming period and reforming period. After continuous efforts by generations of watercolor painters, watercolor paintings with Chinese national style and special characters have been created and prosperous.
Taking advantage of the World Expo Shanghai, Chinese watercolor paintings have, for the first time, stood side by side with excellent watercolor paintings from all countries of the world and made progress together in Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolor Biennial Exhibition, which is a very good beginning. It is sure that Chinese watercolor paintings will, with its massive painter team, serious innovation attitude, severe learning spirit and colorful image, attract attention of whole world with special esteem.
To add charm to the Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolor Biennial Exhibition and to reveal new image of Chinese watercolor paintings from another perspective, we hold this watercolor painting invitation exhibition. Participant artists for this exhibition are limited to members of The Watercolor Painting Art Committee of China Artists Association as well as members of Organization Committee of Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolor Biennial Exhibition. Meanwhile, this exhibition will explore new way to enter the art market, so as to enhance development potentiality of Chinese watercolor paintings. We believe that Chinese watercolor paintings, under efforts of Baiyaxuan Art & Cultural Institute, Chinese watercolor paintings will enter into a bright new field.
