内容提要
　　我们正在步入公共艺术时代。
伴随着现代生活方式和公民社会的全球化进程，人类艺术史发生了前所未有的变革，原先依附于特权阶层或文化精英的艺术生产机制，将日益把更多的份额让位于公共事业和公众视域，一种强调社会属性和公共特征，体现民主、开放、参与、共享之价值观的新型艺术形态，获得了越来越大的发展空间。我国自改革开放以还，经济现代化和社会民主化的程度迅速提升，公共艺术也像前进中不断展现的地平线那样方兴未艾，与此同时，为其携带的光明与阴影，又将错综纷杂，随着时空的绵延联骈而来。
为了见证公共艺术的新时代，参与这个新时代的文明建设，促进人们与艺术之间那层不断嬗变着的微妙关系渐趋紧密和优越，并且将这种见证、参与、促进推广到物质形式及其精神世界的更大层面和更高层次，我们创办了《公共艺术》杂志。希望它作为所有与公共艺术发生自设或被设的关系者的公共平台，共同领略正在展开着和即将展开的一幕又一幕公共艺术情景。（文章来源：《公共艺术》）
