景德镇，是举世闻名的千年瓷都。
陶瓷，是我国先民的伟大发明，中国从公元十世纪开始向高丽国并逐步向西方传播制瓷技术和陶瓷艺术，成为华夏民族的文明见证。China——中国；china——瓷器。陶瓷是中国文化最具象征意义的符号之一。景德镇陶瓷起于宋，兴于元，成于明，盛于清，凭借“城无高墙、人心无篱”的胸怀，集天下名窑之大成，汇各地良工之精华，形成“工匠八方来、器成天下走”的繁荣格局，成为全国制瓷业中心，以“白如玉、明如镜、薄如纸、声如磬”的特点价比黄金风靡世界，创造了“行于九域、施及外洋”的辉煌，对世界陶瓷的发展作出了卓越的贡献。制造瓷器取自于景德镇辖区瑶里镇高岭村的土，被德国地质学家李希霍芬博士以高岭土写入教科书，在153种非金属矿中唯有高岭土以地名命名。景德镇在西方工业革命之前就把陶瓷做成了世界性的大产业，被英国的李约瑟博士称为“世界上最早的一座工业城市”。李政道先生说：一部中国陶瓷史，几乎就是一部中华民族的文明史，也是科学技术与文化艺术互融、互动的发展史。郭沫若先生题诗“中华向号瓷之国，瓷业高峰是此都”。
西方工业革命时期日新月异的科学技术促进了陶瓷产业的发展与提高，中国陶瓷产业暂时失去了其领先地位。中华人民共和国成立后，景德镇陶瓷迅速复苏蓬勃发展。改革开放中，处于中部地区的景德镇由于主客观因素的影响，传统陶瓷产业经历了较长时期的产业解困转型升级。
进入新世纪，景德镇破解了陶瓷电子等传统支柱产业困难、环境污染严重、城市建设滞后的难题，经过几年努力，在2004年景德镇千年庆典的时候，一个现代的新城市展现在世人面前。
2007年以后的三年来，景德镇在科学发展观的指导下实现了新发展。三年财政总收入和一般预算收入分别增长118%和151%，规模以上工业增加值增长122%，利用内资和外资分别增长238%和70%，出口总值增长301%，全社会固定资产投资增长251%，城镇居民人均可支配收入和农民人均纯收入分别增长51%和44%，陶瓷产业也进入快速增长阶段，陶瓷产值三年增长213%。
国家科技部、商务部、中国轻工业联合会与江西省政府自2004年始部省共建国家科技创新城市（建设陶瓷教育、科研、生产、商贸基地）。目前，景德镇陶瓷已形成独领风骚的艺术陶瓷、创新换代的日用陶瓷、蓬勃发展的高新技术陶瓷、前景广阔的建筑卫生陶瓷、独具特色的创意陶瓷的大陶瓷新格局。以高新技术陶瓷为核心竞争力推动传统陶瓷创新，引领大陶瓷产业的发展战略取得显著成效。景德镇现在又扬优成势，将艺术陶瓷推向创意经济新阶段，以欢迎全中国全世界的艺术家到景德镇做陶艺工作室为目标，景德镇国际陶瓷创意中心将给瓷都再谱华章。
今天的景德镇，365天空气质量优良，全年大多达到国家一类饮用水质标准，森林覆盖率超过65%，形成山水、生态、文化特色。不仅陶瓷产业全面发展，而且直升机、无氟压缩机和冰箱、汽车等又有新发展，在省委省政府建设鄱阳湖生态经济区的战略引领下，景德镇市的光伏产业、LED半导体照明、航空制造、新材料高技术陶瓷、生物和新医药、清洁汽车及动力电池、现代农业和有机食品、文化及创意八大战略性新兴产业正在全面兴起，新型城镇化及城市建设如火如荼，科教文卫等社会事业全面进步，已经开启了城市生态宜居、产业转型升级、社会稳定和谐、党建廉政加强的科学发展、绿色崛起新局面。
“海纳百川、厚积薄发”是景德镇再创辉煌的不竭动力，景德镇的陶瓷及文化属于全世界。上海世博会为我们带来了一次系统了解世界的难得机遇，也为我们向世界演绎“土与火”新内涵神韵提供了宝贵的机会。在世博会期间，我们带着158万瓷都人民的智慧和祝福，举办“中国瓷都景德镇—首届上海陶瓷成就展”，这是继北京、台北陶瓷展之后又一次高规格全方位地展示景德镇陶瓷新成就。本书所汇集的展品，从一个侧面反映了千年瓷都的“凤凰涅磐、浴火重生”，表明在中华民族伟大复兴的进程中，景德镇正在重振瓷都雄风，景德镇的明天将更加美好！

Jingdezhen is a famous porcelain capital in the world with the history of more than one thousand years.
Ceramics is a great invention of our ancestors; in the 10th century China began to spread the technology of porcelain making and ceramic art to Gaoli and gradually to the western countries, which became the testimony of the civilization of the Chinese nation. “China” has double meanings: the name of the country and porcelain as well. Ceramics is one of the most symbolic signs in Chinese culture. Jingdezhen’s ceramics originated from the Song Dynasty, rose in the Yuan Dynasty, became matured in the Ming Dynasty and became prosperous in the Qing Dynasty. With the mind of “the city has no high wall, popular feeling has no a fence”, Jingdezhen’s ceramics is a culmination of all famous ceramics and the cream of the craftsmanship of different schools and forms prosperous layout of “the skillful craftsmen were from all over the country and porcelain wares were sold all over the world” and has become the center of national ceramic industry. With the characteristics of being “as white as jade, as shiny as mirror, as thin as paper and as resonant as chime”, Jingdezhen’s porcelain is popular and valuable in the world. The city positively pushed forward the dissemination of Chinese culture and art and economic transaction and contributed considerably to the enrichment and development of the world culture and also the development of the ceramics in the world. The porcelain clay produced in Gaolin village in Yaoli town was called “Kaolin” and adopted into the teaching materials by Dr. Richthofen,a famous geologist in Germany. Among 153 non-metal mineral deposits in the world, only Kaolin is named after the name of the place.” Jingdezhen took ceramics as world-wide great industry before Industrial Revolution in the western countries and was honored by Dr. Joseph from Britain “One of the Oldest Industrial city in the world.” Mr. Li Daozheng once said, a history of Chinese ceramics is almost a history of the Chinese nation, that is to say, a history of development of mutual merging and communication between scientific technology and cultural art. Mr. Guo Moruo once wrote a few words of encouragement “If China is said to be the home of china ware, then Jingdezhen is this land’s porcelain capital.”
During the period of Industrial Revolution in the western countries, scientific technology with never-ending changes and improvement promoted the development and enhancement of ceramic industry; ceramic industry in China lost momentarily its leading position in the world. Since the founding of new China, ceramic industry in Jingdezhen recovered rapidly and developed vigorously. After the reform and opening to the outside, located in the central part, Jingdezhen’s traditional ceramic industry has undergone a comparatively long period of finding ways out of difficulties, making transition and going up grades due to some subjective and objective factors.
After striding into the new century, Jingdezhen has broken a solution of the difficult problems of traditional pillar industries’ going out of difficulties, such as: ceramic and electronic industries; severe environmental pollution and hysteretic urban construction. After making effort of several years and at the time of celebrating the 1000th anniversary of the founding of the city in 2004, a modern and new city revealed to the people in the world.
Since the year of 2007, under the guidance of the view “To Develop in a Scientific Way”, the city has realized new development. The total revenue and general budgetary receipts of the three years increased 118% and 151% respectively; the raise value of grand industry increased 122%; the utilization of domestic capital and foreign funds increased 238% and 70% respectively; the gross value of exports increased 301%;the investment of fixed assets of the whole society increased 251%; the average per allocate income of people in the city and the average per net income of the farmers increased 51% and 44% respectively and ceramic industry has also entered a stage of increasing rapidly and the output value of ceramics of the three years increased 213%.
The State Science and Technology Ministry, China Light Industrial Union and Jiangxi Provincial Government built jointly the innovative city (building the bases of national ceramic education, scientific research, production, commerce and trade). At present, Jingdezhen ceramics has formed a new setup of big ceramics, art ceramics has ruled its own domain, daily-used porcelain has updated and upgraded, hi-new technological ceramics has flourished, building and sanitary ceramics has had a vast range of prospects and innovative ceramics has possessed unique features. The development strategies of taking hi-new technology as its core competitive power to push forward ceramic innovation and lead the big ceramic industry have achieved a lot. Jingdezhen itself brings out its strengths and forms its own advantages, makes creative economy so as to invite artists both from home and abroad to build their workrooms in Jingdezhen and Jingdezhen international ceramic creative center will let the porcelain capital compose a new chapter.
Today air quality in Jingdezhen is excellent for 365 days, the quality standard of drinkable water comes up to national standard for most of the whole year, and the covering rate of the forest is more than 65% and has formed its own features of mountains and rivers, ecology and culture. While developing the ceramic industry in an all-round way, helicopter, compressor without fluorine, refrigerator and automobile in Jingdezhen have also been newly developed. Under the guidance of the strategy of building Poyang Lake ecological and economic zone worked out by Jiangxi Provincial Committee of CPC and People’s Government, some new industries have also been on the upgrade, such as: photovoltaic solar industry, LED semiconductor lighting, aviation manufacture, new material and high technology ceramics, biology and new medicine, sanitary car and electro-kinetic cell, modern agriculture and organic food and culture and innovation. New type of urbanization and the construction of the city are spreading like a raging fire; some social undertakings, such as: science, education, culture and hygiene, have made overall progress and the city has opened up a new prospect of city inhabitable ecology, industry transition and upgrading, stable and harmonious society, scientific development of strengthening the construction of our Party and an honest and clean government and green environment.
“All rivers run into sea; waiting for chance of appearance” is a forever motive force for Jingdezhen to create new brilliance again. Jingdezhen’s ceramics and culture belong to the whole world. Shanghai International Exposition gives us a valuable chance to understand the world systematically and more directly and also a precious chance for us to display the new connotation and verve of “clay and fire” to the world and decorate the cadenza of the International Exposition. During the World Expo, we’ll bring with us the wisdom and blessings of 1,580,000 people in the porcelain capital and hold heartily “Jingdezhen, the Porcelain Capital—the First Session of Exhibition for Ceramic Achievements in Shanghai”. This is undoubtedly a display of new ceramic achievements in Jingdezhen with high standard and in an all-round way just following the Taibei and Beijing’s Exhibitions. All the works for the exhibition collected in the book reflect from one aspect “Phoenix nirvana and rebirth lewd” desire of the thousand-year porcelain capital and shows that Jingdezhen is reviving its heroic appearance of the porcelain capital in the course of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, which indicates a better tomorrow of Jingdezhen!
