中央美术学院曾经是精英荟萃之地,也曾是名副其实的美术教学和创作的引领者,并因此而奠定了中央美院在全国美术界无可争议的地位。
进入新时期之后,中央美术学院的优势地位再一次凸显了出来。我们清楚记得,有着深厚传统积淀和锐意进取意识的美院人,在改革开放的年代里充分显示出其开放的胸怀和求新求变的性格,充分表现出其主动进取的心态和勇于探索的精神,从而使中央美院又一次成为新观念和新方法的生发地和各类信息的集散地,而新一代精英的锋芒显露则预示着中央美院艺术教学与艺术创作一个崭新阶段的到来。
进入新世纪以来,虽然中央美院的地位没有发生根本性的改变,但是环境的变化对中央美院的影响还是显而易见的。我们看到,经过多年周转后,中央美院终于迁入了新的校址,但是其内部和外部环境却发生了巨大的变化,首先是学院内部进行的学科调整,就是将原有的核心专业系整合为造型学院,并与设计、建筑等新学科一同成为二级学院;其次是外部环境的变化,当代艺术思潮的迅速发展直接冲击着造型艺术已有的思维方式和工作方法,而国内外社会、文化的迅速发展又不断地对造型艺术领域提出新的要求,同时,造型艺术自身的发展也面临着新的问题和挑战。然而在多变和复杂的内外环境面前,造型学院艺术家并没有动摇对艺术的理想和信念,也没有因此而迷失方向,更没有一味地迎合与盲从潮流,而是以理性的态度、包容开放的心态和与时俱进的精神从容面对,并且在继承与发展的关系中,在艺术史演进的逻辑中,严肃、认真地思考着自己的艺术取向,追问着艺术的本质,坚持着自己的艺术追求,并且自甘寂寞,脚踏实地的潜心研究、探索着各自的艺术发展之路。
今天,造型学院提出并举办教师提名展,其目的就是为那些活跃在教学第一线的、有着独到艺术见解、并且已经或正在形成个人独特语言方式方法的中青年艺术家提供一个展示其水平和实力的平台。同时希望借助学院力量和资源优势将他们推到前台,让社会大众了解、认识他们的艺术成果,让学术界关注、研究他们的学术成就。尤其在文化艺术多元化发展的今天,举办这样的艺术活动,对于提名艺术家来讲,既是肯定,也是激励,既是荣誉,也是挑战。而对于更多的教师来讲,这样的方式必将会起到示范和带动的作用。因此,提出并举办一年一度的教师提名展活动,对于造型学院今天和未来的教学和创作无疑是有着十分积极的意义。
如果说学院艺术家在相当长的历史时期里曾经被社会广泛关注的话,那么,在信息、机会均等的当代社会中,则需要学院艺术家转换思维,并且以积极进取的态度主动去争取社会大众和学术界的认识和关注。只有如此,才可能赢得学院艺术家应有的学术地位,那种坐、等、靠的态度在今天显然是难以行得通的。因此,我们希望依托于学院的优势和学术的背景,大力推荐新人、推出名师,这不仅仅是策略之举,也不仅仅是美好的愿望。在我看来,只要大家齐心协力,愿望一定会变为现实的。

The Central Academy of Fine Arts, true to its name, as the rallying center of talents and the leader in the education and creation of fine arts in the past and now, has established for itself an indisputable position in the circle of fine arts in China.
Entering the new era, CAFA¡¯s outstanding position has once again made itself prominent. We still clearly remember, its teachers, nursed by profound art traditions and inspired by innovative determination, have fully demonstrated , ever since China¡¯s opening and reform, their spirit of active initiative and daring exploration and their character of open mindset to seek the new and changefulness, thus turning the academy once again into the center of new methodologies, ideas and various information .The appearance of a new generation of the elite of fine arts tells of the arrival of a brand-new stage in the education and creation of the academy.
Although the status of the academy has not changed significantly since the arrival of the new century, the influence of the changed external environment is easily seen. After many years of moves, the academy finally moved to its new location, and interior and exterior environments have all undergone enormous changes. First of all are the disciplines adjustments, with the nucleus of the academy renamed as the School of Fine Arts, running parallel to the disciplines of design and architecture. Second are the changes happened outside the academy wall: the rapid development in contemporary ideas and art is a direct impact on the existing ways of thinking and working methods of fine arts, while the speedy changes in society and culture in China and the world heap new demands on art. In the meantime, fine arts also face new problems and challenges.However, in the face of complicated and changing internal and external environments, the artists in the academy lose neither their faith and ideal in art, nor their direction, in that they never blindly pander to trends, but adopt the attitude of rationality, open-mindedness and permissiveness as they calmly confront the new challenges. Meanwhile, in the relationship between cultural inheritance and development, and in accord with the evutional logic of art, they seriously and earnestly contemplate what artistic road to take , and endeavor to find out the essence of art. Without giving up their own artistic pursuits, they explore, though lonelily, their own artistic world through painstaking, down-to-earth work.
Today, the School of Fine Arts has initiated this faculty-led artist nomination exhibition, the purpose of which is to provide a platform for the young and middle-aged artists active in the academy to demonstrate their talents and achievements, whose independent artistic opinions have already formed, or are in the midst of forming their own personal artistic language and methods. At the same time, we hope, by means of the resources from the academy, to push these artists to the front and center, so that the people in our society can come to know their artistic achievements, and the academic critic world will pay attention to and comment on their works. In a culturally-diverse world of today in particular, such an exhibition is indeed, for the nominated artists, an approval, an encouragement, an honor and a challenge as well. Thus, initiating and hosting such a yearly nomination exhibition will undoubtedly have positive significance in the teaching and creation today and in the future.
If the artists in our academy can enjoy a long-standing history of attention from the society, then in the contemporary world of equal information and opportunity for every artists, artists in our academy should change their ways of thinking so as to proactively win the attention of both the public and the art world. Only in this way can they reap their academic honor. It is a blind alley today if one sits and waits idly for the honor befalling him or her by someone. Thus, we hope, by relying on the outstanding background resources of our academy, to have more and more nominees in the future so that some day they can become masters. This is not only a strategy, but our sincere hope, which will surely come true if we push forward together.
