海宁地处长江三角洲南冀、浙江省北部，南濒钱塘江，东距上海100公里，西接杭州。海宁陆地面积近700平方公里，是典型的江南水乡。海宁现辖8个镇，4个街道，3个省级经济开发区，总人口64万。
海宁素称江南名邑，学风兴盛，名人辈出，为文化之邦；经济发达，市场繁荣，是“皮革之都”、“纺织基地”、“经编名城”；景观丰富，称“观潮胜地”。潮乡人民不断实践与丰富“敬业奉献、猛进如潮”的海宁精神，推动科学发展，促进社会和谐。

Preface
Haining is located on the southern tip of the Yangtze River Delta. With Shanghai some 100 km away to the east, Haining in northern Zhejiang Province is washed by the Qiantangjiang River in the south and connects with Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, in the west. Its land area is close to 700 square km. With a total population of 640,000, Haining exercises jurisdiction over eight towns, four street neighborhood committees and three provincial-level economic development areas.
Enjoying fame as a famous place in the culturally advanced and economically affluent areas south of the Yangtze River, Haining was developed in education even in the ancient times, so that it had nurtured many celebrities. The economically developed city is also blessed with a thriving market. Enjoying the fame as China s capital of leathers , production center of textiles and city famous for its warp knitting and weaving skills , Haining is an ideal place to watch the tidal waves. Imbued with the spirit of devotion and dedication, and making rapid progress , people there endeavor to promote scientific development and social harmony.
Haining s goal is to build itself into a modern city developed in industry and commerce in the Hangzhou Bay, a famous tourist city in the Yangtze River Delta, and a city good for starting new businesses in the Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou area. Haining will also strive to be the first in the area to develop a well-off society and achieve basic modernization. A modernized city of Haining with developed economy, flourishing culture, civilized society, beautiful environment and high quality of life for residents is rising by the Qiantangjiang River.
